What a bummer. The Charles Engelhard Courtyard at the Met has been renovated. I loved that spot, where you could sit at the cafe and gaze outside onto Central Park, the sky unobstructed through the glass ceiling.
Now, the sky is obstructed by two catwalks, the split level flooring has been built up to one level, and there isn't nearly the same ambiance there once was. I had some very memorable moments there.
I suppose I hadn't been there in a year or two, so it came as kind of a shock when I walked through the room. I was impatiently awaiting getting to the courtyard, so much so that I couldn't quite concentrate on the paintings and sculptures I was looking at in the rooms before arriving there.
I guess it comes down to a memory. A Mansion with Many Apartments, as Keats would say, and that is where it will have to live from now on, along with the memories contained therein.
